Water Gardens and Features

Creating a water garden or feature in your garden requires careful thought, is it for wildlife, aquatics, or as a focal point with sound, reflections and movement. Having decided why you require a pond or water garden we can give you advice based on our experience on the correct location, size, shape and depth required as well as carry out the construction. A small ornamental water garden can take the form of a converted sink or be several meters across but without the correct mix of aquatic plants to provide shelter for fish and insects or to create the balance of oxygen and light it will soon become an area to avoid. Using our knowledge, we can supply the correct plants to use and advise if filtration or pumps are required.
After your water garden has been created it will need annual maintenance to keep the balance correct.
In the early stages this is usually replacing filters and skimming unwanted debris from the pond, as it matures plants will need to be removed and thinned out, silt removed and repair any areas around the feature which could damage it in the future. We offer a full service to create and manage your water garden using our local knowledge and experience.

To summarisal we provide the following services

  • Design and build Wildlife ponds
  • Pond cleaning
  • Pond maintenance

Thank you very much for the excellent service you provided cleaning my pond. Very professional and friendly service. I would not hesitate to recommend you and use you for future projects.

Gardeners Delight Gardening Services

Nick started working as a gardener at weekends whilst at school. In 1983 he started GARDENERS DELIGHT services, he married Hannah in 1988, a florist, who started to grow some of the plants Nick required for his local garden services in their back garden, with the excess sold in the local Barnstaple pannier market. As the demand for their quality plants grew, they purchased 5 acres of farm land in Barnstaple, which became Gardeners Delight Nursery.
This has grown to be a leading local family run nursery in North Devon which produces an extensive range of herbaceous perennials, bedding and vegetable plants, trees, shrubs, roses and clematis along with delicious fresh fruit and vegetables. 90% of these are grown on site using the skill and experience gained over 30 years of growing for the local coastal & moorland environment.
The nursery is open daily(see opening times) they also attend local farmers markets in Barnstaple, Exeter, Crediton and Bude to sell their plants, fruit and vegetables as well as specialist plant shows across the South West of England where Nick and his daughter have gained awards for their perennial garden displays.
Nicks gardening experience & design skills along with Hannah's eye for colour and detail have helped local councils, caravan parks, hotels and other local businesses win gold, national and international awards from Britain in Bloom with stunning flower displays.
With his family and crazy spaniel Poppy running the nursery Nick uses his passion and knowledge of plants and gardening to maintain, design and transform gardens locally and across North Devon for private and commercial clients.
